TOP FIVE
Get-Away-From-Christmas Destinations

By Sarah Broshar

Tired of corporate American marketing and annoying holiday carols?

1. Morocco
Most Arabic/Islamic countries are a safe escape from Christian holidays, but Morocco offers breathtaking architecture, geographical vistas & bargain shopping galore. Search for international flights at Vayama.com. Flights for this holiday season start at $913 from NY or LA.

2. The Desert
It will be cold at night, but a nice sleeping bag should keep you toasty. Bring a few friends out to Joshua Tree or your favorite desert camping destination; you can hike & explore the days away and curl up to a campfire and acoustic guitar at night.

3. Your Bedroom
Yes, if you really want to avoid the holidays and neighborly cheer and are on a budget, you could simply turn off your phone & hole up with your laptop, stacks of DVD's and a pile of microwavable meals. I'm a big fan of Annie's Microwavable Mac & Cheese. Don't forget the popcorn. Or the martinis... There's a great Chocolate-Covered Raspberry Martini recipe I heard about recently... Vanilla vodka, Chambord & Godiva chocolate liqueur....

4. Catamaran in the Caribbean
Wouldn't we all want to spend Christmas here? Or any other day of the year? Start browsing your dream boat at caribbeancatamaran.com. Your private crew will honor or ignore any holiday festivities you wish. Meanwhile you can spend your days drifting from island to island, eating fresh chef-prepared meals and sipping specialty cocktails in your bikini. Sound too good to be true? It's not, but it's certainly expensive.

5. Mexico
You can't get away from Christmas in this largely Catholic country, but you can get away from a lot of other things -- namely the US government. A few shots of tequila should help you forget what you're running from.
